“How Do I Get a Publisher For My Book?”

Anyone who has ever put words to paper has also dreamed of seeing their book at the local Barnes & Noble. You know, one of those giant cardboard cutouts holding copies of your book, along with the words “New York Times Bestseller” and “Soon to be a major motion picture!” plastered in giant yellow letters.

Well, it isn’t going to happen with an eBook, or even a self-published book. To get that kind of publicity, you are going to need a traditional publisher for your book.

Of course, there are some difficulties and downsides to going after a major publisher. Click the link below and check out my article on the topic.

Hey Guys -

There have been a lot of people asking me lately about whether they should self-publish their book, or try and get an agent, or just create an eBook and be done with it. To be honest, there are a lot of choices to make. And a lot of ways to accomplish your goals.

But it can all be pretty confusing if you’ve never been through it before.

Well, I HAVE been through it, many times over, and I decided to put some of that experience together into a series of articles on Publishing Options.

Here is a link to the first article in the series:

Have you ever thought about writing your own book? Sure you have. And if you’ve been reading this blog, you know that I just wrapped up a series on getting your thoughts on paper.

BUT . . .Now that the book is written, what’s next? How do you publish a book?

There are essentially four main ways to get your work into the hands of people who will:

1.) benefit from it

2.) pay to see it

I know this is a topic of interest for a lot of people, so I am going to begin a NEW series of articles describing the four main publishing methods, along with the positives and negatives of each. Check back here often to see each installment, and you’ll soon be able to choose the absolute best method for getting your work in print.

Big ideas and Brainstorming

Brainstorming is often an overused word, incorrectly used to describe any time that someone plans even the simplest trip to the Post Office. True Brainstorming is much more than just planning. It’s about big ideas and putting real effort into future directions. It’s throwing out old methods of business and filling pages with possibilities.

And that’s exactly what I’ve spent the last few days doing.

Sure, there have been other tasks and obligations, but my graph-paper notebook is now filled with colorful charts, diagrams, descriptions of future projects, and thoughts about new products, new services, new websites, and new ways of getting information into the hands of folks that want it and need it. Truly a fun and enlightening process.

What about you? When was the last time you really sat down with paper, pencils, and colored pens and mapped out a future direction for your business or your life? If it’s been a while . . . that’s what quiet mornings and late evenings were made for.

“Guy’s Weekend” – a new definition

Well, it’s going to be an interesting weekend.

There was a time when “guy’s weekend” meant me and three or four of my old buds would get together for a weekend of cigars, golf and partying. Not this time. This weekend it means that my wife and daughters are out of town, and it’s just me and my son. We’ve agreed to an aggressive schedule of Cub Scouts, video rentals, basketball, Wii Sports and McDonald’s dinners. Oh yeah, there is also this thing called the SUPER BOWL on Sunday.

It may not be the same, but I have a feeling I’m still going to have a great time.
